A Generous £2,000 donation from Leigh Rotary
Following a strong partnership with Leigh Rotary Club, the team at Leigh Youth Hub are delighted to have received a generous £2,000 donation, which will fund a range of exciting new music equipment for local young people to enjoy.
As many of the Hub’s sessions and activities are offered free of charge, external support and partnerships created from community fundraising, such as those from Leigh Rotary, are vital to keeping these provisions accessible for everyone to enjoy.
Growing Music Opportunities at Leigh Youth Hub
Music has been a popular activity at Leigh Youth Hub’s free Open Access sessions since it first opened its doors in 2022. Until now, much of the equipment available to young people has been generously donated, often having already seen years of use. As demand for music sessions has continued to grow, the need to invest in high quality resources that support young people’s creativity and personal development became important.
Leigh Youth Hub’s popular Thursday evening music sessions are delivered by two specialist youth workers from Wigan Youth Zone. Sessions for younger members focus primarily on learning and playing instruments, while older groups enjoy a blend of activities, tailored to their interests. The popularity of the programme has grown so much that the sessions now take place across two rooms, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for music among young people and the positive impact the sessions are having on their personal development.

Young People Shaping the Future of Music
As a service built by young people, for young people, ensuring their voices are heard remains at the heart of everything Leigh Youth Hub does. This project was no exception. Young people played a key role in shaping the investment by sharing which instruments they were most interested in learning, while youth workers considered the skills and expertise available within the team to create the greatest benefit to members.
The Impact of Donations to Leigh Youth Hub
Learning a musical instrument can often be expensive, creating financial barriers for many families. The new investment by Leigh Rotary will provide an affordable and accessible way for young people to learn the basics of different instruments without the typical high costs associated with music tuition. By building confidence and experience, the programme aims to inspire the next generation of musicians while giving young people a positive and creative outlet on a weekly basis.
Thanks to the generous donation of Leigh Rotary, Leigh Youth Hub will be able to purchase a wide range of instruments and musical resources, including an electric drum kit, keyboard, acoustic bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, three ukuleles, harmonicas and a karaoke machine. The funding will also support the maintenance and enhancement of existing equipment, helping to ensure that young people can continue making music for years to come.

A Special Thanks to Leigh Rotary
Leigh Youth Hub would like to extend its sincere thanks one again to Leigh Rotary for their generosity and commitment to supporting opportunities for young people at Leigh Youth Hub. Your help and support are greatly appreciated, and it never goes unnoticed. This investment will help ensure that music continues to play a central role in the lives of young people attending the Youth Hub, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to explore their talents and express themselves creatively.
