National Play Day is the UK’s annual celebration of children’s right to play, highlighting the importance of play in helping children learn, develop, and thrive. Held on the first Wednesday in August each year, the event brings families and communities together through fun, creativity and active outdoor experiences. Leigh Youth Hub is proud to take part every year as part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, delivering engaging activities that encourage children and young people to get active, make new friends, and enjoy the many benefits of play. National Play Day is always a highlight of our summer programme, providing a fantastic opportunity for families across Leigh to come together, have fun and create lasting memories.
Leigh Pride is a fantastic annual celebration of diversity, inclusion, and community, held every July at Pennington Hall Park. Each year, Leigh Youth Hub is proud to attend and host a stall, providing information about our services, activities, and opportunities for young people and families. The event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community, celebrate individuality, and promote equality for all. Leigh Youth Hub is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected, and we proudly support the LGBTQIA+ community throughout the year. We believe everyone should feel empowered to be themselves and have access to spaces where they can belong, thrive and be celebrated.
Light Up Leigh is a much-loved annual community celebration held every November, bringing local people together to mark the start of the festive season. Featuring live entertainment, festive activities, and a spectacular parade through the town, the event creates a wonderful atmosphere for families and residents of all ages. Leigh Youth Hub is proud to have taken part in the parade for the past four years, with our young people, staff and volunteers joining the festivities and showcasing the creativity, talent and community spirit that make Leigh so special.
Leigh Film Factory is a fantastic local cinema experience that gives young people the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the big screen right here in Leigh. Leigh Youth Hub attends multiple screenings throughout the year, choosing films that our young people are excited to see. We especially love our summer visits as part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, as well as our festive screenings at Christmas to celebrate the holiday season together. These trips provide a fun, affordable, and memorable experience for young people while encouraging social connection and community engagement.
